NetDefense Company ("NetDefense", "we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our services.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our services
  • Process transactions and send related information
  • Send technical notices, updates, and security alerts
  • Send product emails (see "Product Emails" below)
  • Respond to your comments, questions, and support requests
  • Monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent or unauthorized activities

Product Emails

We send account holders product announcements, release notes and security advisories, and a monthly "What's new" newsletter. We send these emails based on our legitimate interest in keeping our customers informed about the service they use and its security. You can object at any time (see Section 6).

To send them, we pass your account email address and account name to Kit (kit.com), an email service provider that acts as our processor and sends these emails on our behalf. Kit processes this information only to deliver our emails.

Every product email includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops these product emails. It does not stop messages we need to send to operate your account or the service, such as billing messages, notices about security incidents affecting your account, and account notices.

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:

  • Service providers who assist in our operations, including Kit (kit.com), which sends our product emails
  • Professional advisors (lawyers, accountants, auditors)
  • Law enforcement when required by law
  • Business transferees in the event of a merger or acquisition

We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.

4. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit and at rest
  • Regular security assessments
  • Access controls and authentication requirements
  • Secure data centers and infrastructure

However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. We may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.

Your account email address and name held by Kit for product emails are removed from Kit when the account is deleted or disabled. Removal happens at the next update of our mailing list, which takes place before every send, so a deleted or disabled account is not emailed again.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Delete your personal information
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Data portability
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

7. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers.

Kit processes the email address and name it receives for product emails in the United States. These transfers are covered by Kit's data processing agreement, which incorporates the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and, for the UK, the International Data Transfer Addendum.

8. Children's Privacy

Our services are not directed to individuals under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have collected information from a child, we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
